Exemestane belongs to a category of drugs known as an aromatase inhibitors, which disable the aromatase enzyme. Thus eliminate the production of Estrogen by conversion of androgens into estrogen. Exemestane is a very strong steroidal aromatase inhibitor of the suicidal type. It means it permanently disable the aromatase enzyme to which is bound to. The purpose of use is to control Estrogen related side effects, which include gynecomastia, fluid retention or elevated blood pressure. A dose of 25mg per day of Exemestane can reduce blood plasma levels of Estrogen by 85%. The other advantages of Exemestane is the ability to increase Insulin Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1).
The main side effect is escess reduction of estrogen levels in the body, which may cause a negative impact on bone mineral content. Exemestane may actually strengthen the bones to a point. Other side effects include fatigue, lethargy, joint and bone pain and a negative impact on blood cholesterol.
Recommended daily dose for the purpose of estrogen control during the cycle is 12,5 – 25mg per day with or without food. The dose can be adjusted depending on users tolerance. During the post cycle therapy it is recommended to use 25mg per day for no greater than two weeks. The half life of Exemestaneis 27 hours. In order to reach peak blood plasma levels, it is necessary to consistently use Exemestane at least for 7 days
